This article has been resubmitted after being copied by a South Asian News Site.

The iPhone release date rumors game is evolving into a June vs October showdown for 2012, while the list of rumors around iPhone 5 features is evolving due to a MacRumors poll. There’s fresh news of a new Apple patent for wireless headphones that could go with the iPhone 5 release date, and talk of features like 4G LTE and iOS6 alongside an iTunes update. New iPhone rumors for features emerging right now include a larger screen, wireless headphones, 4G LTE, iOS6, a Siri update and iTunes.

iPhone 5 Release Date

Gene Munster, THE man to watch in terms of Apple iPhone 5 release date predictions, is saying that the date of an iPhone 5 release will likely hinge on Apple’s ability to perform on an upcoming earnings announcement, which will be announced on the date of April 24. His theory? IBT is saying that Apple can pick at whim the release date since iPhone demand is currently “captive” and there’s no need to rush out a new iPhone when people are still snatching up the iPhone 4s like hotcakes.

“While our model currently assumes iPhone 5 in August, it is more likely the phone launches either late in the June quarter or early in the December quarter based on past launches,” Munster said, adding “Apple’s guidance will offer a hint as to the timing of the iPhone 5. The reality is the ‘when’ question doesn’t matter for shares of AAPL as we believe consumer demand for the iPhone is captive and buyers are unlikely to go out to buy a different phone if launch is not until October.”

I’m assuming that “December Quarter” means the one that starts in October, so this could reinforce the October release date and announcement, as happened for the iPhone release date last year. It certainly could provide the kind of feeding frenzy Apple would love, as everyone stampedes to get one in time for the holidays. It would also reinforce the January buying spree, once a quiet time in retail sales and now a massive consumer splurge due to holiday gift cards and gift returns.

iPhone 5 Features

Among the latest iPhone 5 features rumors is the newly-filed patent for a “Wireless headset with integrated media player,” which is for wireless headphones that could tap into iPhone 5 and iPod capabilities without actually using the device, a sort of hands free headset that would be great for use around the house or when exercising and the go — no more digging for your iPhone and navigating to the right screen, you can just use the wireless controls on the headphones for playing music, listening to voicemail and making voice memos. Throw in a Siri update to allow you to just speak commands and you have a truly voice-enabled Siri headset for the iPhone 5. We should also remember that Apple has patents for wireless headphones with advanced noise cancellation and auto shut off when you take them off of your head. The future is so right now. IBT also ran a nice list of iPhone 5 features with wireless headphones, universal remote (for Apple TV) and larger iPhone screen among those listed.

MacRumors ran an iPhone 5 features survey last month, asking users what the best new iPhone features would be. The top features were larger screen longer battery life (always a constant), 4G LTE and iOS 6 all topped the list. See the full MacRumors survey for more. The Verge also offers a rumor on a new, four-inch iPhone 5 screen, saying “In the past year or so the smartphone landscape has seen a trend of screen size increasing from around 3.2/3.5 inches to 4.3, 4.65 and as high as 5.3 inches in the case of the Samsung Galaxy Note. The iPhone screen however, has remained at 3.5 inches since its debut in 2007.” IBT backs this up as well. What iPhone 5 features do you want to see?

Protecting your iPhone’s display from scratches is important to a lot of people. As a result, there are a wide variety of screen protector brands on the market. I’ve personally avoided applying screen protectors to my own iPhone 4s mainly because I tend to have problems lining them up perfectly. I bet a lot of people want to protect their screen, but fail to do so because they figure they will waste their purchase on a bad install. That must be why we’re seeing a few new screen protectors popping up on the market that claim to give you a perfect install every time. A couple months ago I reviewed the PureGear protector and found their unique install method to be a great idea. ScreenPro is a new player on the scene that looks to offer an even better way to install a screen protector on your iPhone 4s.

Note: Click the images in this review to see a larger view.

My iPhone 4s has had the PureGear protector installed since the beginning of February. At first I really liked it, but as the weeks, months have gone by, I’ve become a little less enamored by it for a couple of reasons. The main reason is that it has a rubbery soft texture that makes it almost impossible to use with a stylus. That means it’s tough to do drawings when playing Draw Something. It also means that over time I’ve started noticing a slight orange peel type effect. I’m not sure you can see what I mean by clicking on the image above, but if you look at the edge where the the shadow falls across the screen, you’ll notice what looks like pitting in the protector. This effect doesn’t hinder what you can see on the screen or the sensitivity of the capacitive screen. It just looks crummy. This protector also gets smeared and streaked easily.

When I found the ScreenPro protectors in my mailbox, I wasn’t all that excited till I looked at the packaging a little closer and saw that they claim a perfect fit every time. Cool… So I peeled off the PureGear and opened the ScreenPro package.

ScreenPro offers 3 different iPhone 4s protectors: Clear, Anti-glare and Privacy. I opted to try the Anti-glare version first. Inside each package is an instruction sheet, polishing cloth and 1 screen protector.

The screen protector is “glued” into a special plastic tray that has been designed especially for the iPhone 4s.

Installation is very easy. First make sure your iPhone’s screen is clean and dust free (easier said than done…). Then peel off the top layer of film from the protector.

Then the iPhone is snapped into the tray face down after making sure you have the iPhone oriented correctly first of course.

Then all you have to do is flip the tray over and pop it off.

Some little dabs of sticky goo glue can be peeled off and then using the polishing cloth, you can squeegee out the bubbles.

Unfortunately, two bubbles with a tiny dust particle in the center remained after I rubbed and buffed for several minutes. Darn dust!

Pulling off the remaining film reveals the screen protector. As you can see in addition to the 2 bubbles, I also have a problem with the bottom edge not sticking. Not sure why that is, but no matter how much rubbing I did, I could not get it to stick. I was able to get rid of the one main bubble by sticking a piece of tape on the lower edge, lifting up the protector and then using a 2nd piece of tape to “grab” the piece of dust on the underside of the protector and then smoothing it back down. I had to do this 3 times as each time I lifted the protector, I would introduce more dust particles. Argh…

This Anti-glare protector has a nice matte finish that is visible and tactile. I’m happy to report that you can use a stylus with this protector with no trouble. It does make the gorgeous retina display look a little grainy though. And as far as I can tell, it really doesn’t help that much with direct sunlight.

I think the ScreenPro protector (so far) is a definite improvement over the PureGear. It’s quicker and easier to install and the protector itself is thinner and less rubbery feeling. I’ll try the Privacy and Clear versions in a few weeks after I get a chance to really use this Anti-glare version. Even though it’s early, I am going to recommend ScreenPro for ease of install and stylus compatibility.

iPhone 5 release date rumors are spreading like wildfire. Meanwhile reports suggest that Apple is testing 1GB iPhone and new iPod

There is a new report out and about that a new prototype of iPhone is being tasted by Apple, kept under serious wraps. Website 9to5Mac reported that the prototype is being tested under the cover of a shell that looks exactly like that of iPhone 4S to keep it a secret.

The new prototype is supposed to be packed with 1GB of RAM. This is a normal number as compared to other phones and is also the same as that packed in the new iPad.

Besides the memory, the prototype is supposed to be using a variation of the A5X chip that is there is the new iPad. The chip s said to be the purpose of the testing of the prototype since the A5X is basically designed for graphics. The processor backs the high resolution of high-fidelity graphics retina Display. This is, roughly four times the resolution of the general gang of smartphones in the market.

Besides the iPhone, the iPod is also said to be getting a new cousin soon. The last update on the iPod was a mere colour update and a revision of the media player seems long overdue. This might very well prove to be true since the latest buzz has revealed that an internal document is referring to a device that it calls iPod 5.1. Since the last iPod was referred to as the iPod 4.1 in the internal documents, this might be a newer generation of iPod. The leap from one number to another always indicates a next generation device for Apple.

Website 9to5Mac also reports that Apple plans to keep developing the iPod Touch due to the high success rate of the App Store and iOS as a gaming platform in recent years. When the gaming device is matched with the graphics processing abilities of the A5X chip, it is sure to bring good results.

The report, despite putting in these details, fails to mention a date of release of the next iPods and iPhones. They are roughly expected to be out by the end of the year, but there is no certainty.

Then there is another rumour that sprang from Topeka Capital Markets analyst Brian White’s China and Taiwan tour. White came away with some fresh gossip on the next gen iPhone and he also sprinkled some specs and revision news to it.

White claims that there are hints of the next Apple handset having a 4-inch screen. Despite stating this, he doubts the wisdom of doing so as the bigger screen would bump the resolution down from 326ppi (pixels per inch) to around 280ppi, and customers are highly satisfied with their current screen size and resolution.

White also added that the new look would require a unibody case for the next iPhone. He also questions the wisdom of this choice as though Apple does wonders with design, but pushing the antenna inside would automatically leave les room for other components and the battery.

He also added that the phone would have 4G capability and it might be out by August or September this year.

untethered jailbreak is currently for non-A5 devices only (will not work with iPhone 4S or iPad 2).
After a long wait of approximately three months, the owners of unlock and jailbreak iPhone 4S/4 5.1 and iPad 2 were finally gifted with an untethered jailbreak for their devices. Thanks to the renowned French iOS hacker Pod2g and his “Dream Team” of jailbreakers, all technical snags blocking the public distribution of the untethered jailbreak for 5.1were successfully overcome.

So now we have an untethered jailbreak unlock iphone 4/4s meant for all devices on 5.1 Apart from that Apple has also come out with an updated iBooks that offers more engaging content. The company recently announced a number of new initiatives focusing on the education sector, which directly relates to the use of iBooks. The initiatives, no doubt, will promote many more downloads of the free-of-charge application, Redmond Pie reported.

However, there is a catch. Apple, in order to make things a little more complicated, has included some safety measures, due to which, certain applications would crash immediately after launching a jailbroken device. iBooks is one of those applications.

iBooks issues have reportedly been causing problems with books protected by Digital Rights Management (DRM) technologies. According to some users, images and text are displaying incorrectly and sometimes randomly disappear when reading or viewing books that are protected by DRM.
How to unlock iPhone 4 on 5.1 with Gevey SIM? Well, if you use Gevey SIM to unlock your iPhone 4 on unofficial carrier and you are one from who interested in the newly 5.1 which released in the new iPad Media Event, so you have to follow the below procedure to keep your Gevey SIM working on your iPhone 4.

Unlock iPhone 4/4S 5.1 Gevey SIM

As most unlockers know that Gevey SIM can only unlock iPhone 4/4S 5.1 on specific basebands, so when you decide to update to any new version of iOS, you MUST update to custom firmware. As updating your iPhone 4 to stock 5.1 will kill your Gevey SIM functionality. So we writing this article to show you how to avoid falling in this trap.
Before showing you how to unlock iPhone 4 on 5.1 using Gevey SIM – Here’s what we gonna do:

Gevey SIM is able only to unlock iPhone 4 on those basebands (4.10.01 – 3.10.01 – 2.10.04 – 1.59.00). So in the below guide we will show you how to update your iPhone 4 to 5.1 with preserving the above unlockable basebands. This step can be done using Redsn0w, as it will cook custom firmware which will be used with iTunes to restore your iPhone 4 to 5.1

Like us on Facebook

This seems to be a trend of sorts, as the release of the New iPad in March was a major disappointment for many who expected a paradigm-shifting iPad 3 and instead got a tablet that barely matches the stats of its competitors.

This trend of over-hyped yet disappointingly-bland products being released each year by Apple appears to have contributed to a level of discontent that is bubbling just under the surface in the minds of many Apple fans. Though there are still hundreds of thousands of die-hard Apple-heads, a growing number of them are questioning the future of Apple, and just what the iPhone 5 release date will bring.

Macrumors.com forum users have started to take to the site to make their complaints and worries known. Forum user vitzr aired his view that Apple “know[s] exactly how much their customers will let them get away with,” and explained just how that happened with the iPhone 4s:

“Now a full two generations behind, they are still pushing the tiny 3.5″ display. Not only is that the smallest of any [smarphone], but they’ve got their followers convinced it’s the perfect size,” vitzr wrote on the forum. “If other manufacturers also had cult like followers that would defend their companies’ position like Apple does, the playing field would be level. Apple is in a very unique position. It’s as though they can do no wrong.”

And Macrumors.com user Arcadia310 takes it a step further, saying that one of the key reasons for the growing unhappiness many users feel about Apple products is exacerbated by the fact that its competitors — especially Google’s Android products — are outpacing the company in many areas, and Apple is not doing enough to keep up:

“I truly feel that [Apple] is resting on [its] laurels, just like RIM and other companies have before they went downhill. So far, Apple has done great with this two-year upgrade scheme with the iPhone. But companies like Samsung and Motorola are upgrading their technology dramatically each year,” Arcadia310 wrote on the forum. “If Apple doesn’t bring the heat with iOS 6 and the iPhone 5, I truly believe the company will be headed downhill. Google is innovating at an alarming rate and Ice Cream Sandwich opens up an entirely new gateway of possibilities. NFC is going to take off in these next two years and Apple has no answer for it.”

But not every Apple fan feels the same way, as evidenced by Macrumors.com user andyx3x, who summed it up in a few short words:

“Maybe you’re just an Android guy. Nothing wrong with that. Just go back.”

As rumors of a 6th generation Apple smartphone continue to surface, many are wondering what specs are likely for the handset. Also, what can consumers expect for the iPhone 5 release date? Though the launch has not been announced, fans believe Apple is working quietly on the gadget.

With Android devices containing super fast 4G technology, a lot of Appleites are hopeful the next Apple phone will have super-fast connectivity. Though techies anticipated these upgrades for last year’s 5th generation device, Apple was unable to pull off a 4G smartphone and gave fans Siri instead. Siri is nice, but it seems it’d be a lot more appealing to have a 4G Apple device.

In addition to 4G rumors, the iPhone 5 release date may give the world a larger screened device with a high-resolution retina display, and a larger battery which would be needed to adequately power the handset if it should have 4G. Perhaps this is also the reason for the larger screen. Normally the Apple smartphones have a 3.5″ display, but it’s expected the new model will have a 4″ display. Only slightly larger, but for a handheld it goes a long way.

Though most sources believe the iPhone 5 release date will be in October 2012, others feel the Apple smartphone could launch in June as most earlier models have.

The fact that the earliest rumored release date for the iPhone 5 is still two months away hasn’t stopped people from gossiping about what may or may not be on Apple’s upcoming smartphone release. Let’s look at some of the most talked-about iPhone 5 specification rumors.

First, let’s talk launch dates. There are two camps expecting different launch schedules for the new iPhone. One group thinks Apple’s next-gen smartphone will be out by June and previewed at the Worldwide Developer Conference, just like previous iPhones had been.

And there’s the other group, those who are expecting the device out by October, as June would be less than a year removed from the iPhone 4S’ launch. Both sides have cited anonymous Foxconn employees as their sources, but the way we see it, the actual launch date may actually fall in between those two predictions.

Since the launch of Apple’s new iPad last month, there have been speculations of its features becoming a part of the new iPhone. This would primarily include 4G LTE, and it has recently been confirmed that the iPhone 5 would support this new, exciting standard. The A5X dual-core CPU/quad-core GPU may serve as the new iPhone’s power source, but there is also a possibility it may come with a newer, more potent processor, tentatively called the A6.

Lastly, the iPhone’s lack of display size may likely be addressed on the upcoming iPhone 5 iteration. More and more handsets are making the iPhone’s standard 3.5-inch screen size look microscopic.

Currently the prevailing rumors suggest that Apple will either increase the screen size to four or 4.6 inches. The latter would be more favorable, as the former would still leave the iPhone 5 well behind most of its competitors in terms of screen size.

1. Lumia 900: Microsoft’s Last Best Chance?

The Lumia 900 is considered to be Microsoft’s best shot to stop the Apple juggernaut. Does it have what it takes?

Hey, did you hear? Microsoft makes an operating system for smartphones!

If you didn’t know, don’t feel bad, you’re hardly alone. With a market share in the single digits, it seems Microsoft’s brand awareness for its smartphone OS is down there with Linux on the desktop.

In this case, you could say the failure is for lack of trying. I’ve seen TV ads for Internet Explorer, a free product, but nothing yet for Windows Phone. And as our recent feature on Windows Phone and BlackBerry illustrated, the phone has appeal if you can get it in front of people.

Microsoft certainly has the reach. All four major wireless carriers have the Windows Phone, and OEMs include Samsung, HTC and Nokia. That’s a lot of reach.

It’s Nokia’s Lumia 900 that’s widely viewed as Microsoft’s last best chance, and it’s a pretty good chance. The Lumia 900 was voted Best of Comdex 2012 by a number of publications, including CNet, and has earned raves.

Then again, so did the Palm Pre three years ago.

However, Palm was a broke and broken company with minimal support. The Lumia 900 has the world’s largest smartphone maker and the world’s largest software company behind it. No one can say they won’t have the money to flog this thing to the moon.

So, is it all that? Let’s take a look and see how it stacks up to the best-selling smartphone in the world.
